The current focus is on fundraising and starting to discharge the pre-commencement conditions on the planning approval, focussing on the archaeological conditions. A survey of the section of culvert to be replaced has been completed and will be recorded and deposited in an official archive. Trial digs in the location of previous historic buildings will be completed later in the year.
What is Project Crocus?
Project Crocus will provide sixteen modern, accessible, and energy-efficient new almshouse homes, replacing the seven 1950s bungalows in Primes Close. The Trustees worked with BB+C, Cambridge architects with significant experience in new builds alongside historically-sensitive and listed buildings, to design a building which will sit comfortably with those around it. Planning approval was achieved in October 2024 (ref. UTT/24/1383/FUL), and the project has the support of Uttlesford District Council (UDC) Housing. The new building will provide a number of public benefits and will be designed for 21st-century living.
